The bestsellers in used cars: Czechs more than ever bet on the safety and a low age

10.12.2014
Company: Aures Holdings

Sales of cars up to two years of age grew the most, there’s a fivefold increase in cars with an EPS system.

As far as equipment of used cars is concerned, the last five years saw the steepest growth in safety features like airbags, ABS or ESP. These are the results of the analysis of used cars’ equipment sold by AAA AUTO. The company analysed more than 169 thousand individual sales. The most pronounced changes occurred in the age of sold cars and in their safety equipment.

Out of all age groups Czechs favoured the segment of cars up to two years of age, which grew in the most dynamic fashion by 49 percent in the y-o-y comparison, while the total sales in the same period grew by 62 percent. “There is a clear trend. The car’s age and its safety features are communicating vessels. The younger cars customers prefer, the more sophisticated its safety equipment is. Thanks to the development of new technologies, car makers gradually shift safety equipment from the extra to the standard category. Newer cars nowadays usually have all the safety equipment included in the price whereas with older cars one had to pay for it extra. In AAA AUTO cars in this category usually sell under the Mototechna brand, or Mototechna Premium,” said Karolína Topolová, CEO of AAA AUTO.

As far as safety features are concerned, the share of sold used cars with more than two airbags grew most conspicuously. But for the first time in seven years AAA AUTO noted an obvious decrease in sales of cars with two or less than two airbags, by 16 percent in the year-on-year comparison. Approximately four in five sold cars had the ABS system. But the steepest rise can be seen in the electronic stability programme system. There was a fivefold increase in sales of cars equipped with the ESP system in comparison with the year 2011.
