Company: Amcham

Mandarin Oriental, Prague is delighted to announce the appointment of Jiří Štift as Executive Chef in charge of all of the hotel’s culinary operations.

One of the city’s most exciting young talents, Jiří Štift was schooled at the Prague Hotel Management School and began his culinary career at the InterContinental in Prague before travelling the world onboard the famous Queen Elizabeth II for six months working in its prestigious kitchens. Upon his return to Prague in 1999, Štift joined Radisson SAS Alcron hotel and was appointed Executive Chef in 2002. During his six years tenure, the hotel’s Alcron restaurant was established as one of Prague’s best for seafood gastronomy and awarded him the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences’ much coveted five-star Diamond Award; the first ever in Prague. Štift has also claimed numerous Czech Gourmet Guide awards for both La Rotonde and Alcron restaurants.

A skilled chef, and Czech national, Stift is continually seeking to promote only the finest local and seasonal produce. Štift prides himself on “supporting local growers and suppliers, highlighting the best his country has to offer using only the highest quality seasonal ingredients immaculately prepared to allow guests to sample the best evolved Czech cuisine.”

Mandarin Oriental’s acclaimed Essensia Restaurant acclaimed signature will continue to offer its sought after creative Asian fare but now also feature the culinary creativity of Jiri Stift and his personal interpretation of classic Czech favourites. “We are delighted to welcome Jiří to the Mandarin Oriental family and certain that his culinary flair will delight both local and international guests alike” remarks Clemens Hoerth, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Prague.

Essensia restaurant at award-winning Mandarin Oriental, Prague, is located in the heart of historic Mala Strana, and housed in what used to be the former refectory of this converted fourteenth century monastery. The restaurant, with its arches and vaulted ceilings, offers the perfect backdrop for Štift’s reviewed traditional Czech cuisine.
