The performance of Vaclav Havel Airport Prague for the first half of 2015 confirms the increasing interest in Prague as a destination. During the first half of 2015, a total of 5,233,583 passengers were handled at Vaclav Havel Airport Prague. Compared to the same period in 2014, this represents an increase of almost 270,000.
“In the first half of this year, the year-on-year figure shows a 5.4% increase in the number of passengers handled. As was the case in the first quarter of this year, we recorded the greatest increase among passengers from countries in Europe and the Middle East.Based upon the current figures, we expect the total increase in the number of passengers in 2015 could amount to approximately 5%”, said Václav Řehoř, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Czech Aeroholding.
26 June was the busiest operation day on which the airport handled over 48,000 passengers. Nevertheless, it is expected this record will be broken during the summer months, traditionally most popular.
Countries with the greatest increase in the number of passengers from/to Prague include Great Britain, Belgium, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Germany. In terms of the increased number of destinations, the top destinations include Standsted in London, Dubai, Frankfurt, Rome and Amsterdam. Thanks to the increase in the number of passengers to these destinations, the airport has successfully compensated for the 15% year-on-year decrease on routes from Russia.
The increase in transportation volume over the first half of the year is due to the operation of new routes (e.g., Moscow / Vnukovo, Bremen, Bologna, Belfast, Glasgow) not in place in the first half of last year on the one hand, and, on the other hand, by increased capacity on existing routes, particularly those to traditional destinations such as London, Rome and Dubai. Average seat occupancy for all flights in the first half of 2015 increased 3.6% year-on-year to 74.5% (from the original 70.9%).
