Prague Airport won first place in the category of airports checking in 4 to 20 million passengers a year at the World Routes international conference which was held from 19 to 22 September in Durban, South Africa. It won for the first time in its history in global competition with other airports. At this biggest world venue of air carriers and airports, airline representatives appreciated the quality of mutual cooperation in the development of air connections and in marketing support.

Apart from Václav Havel Airport Prague, the nomination for the award in this category was narrowed down to the European airports of Budapest, Athens, Cologne-Bonn and of Austin in the US. During the voting the airlines considered the ability of the airports to implement their requirements as part of daily cooperation, the way in which they approach the building of mutual relations or provide data as well as offered incentive programmes. Last but not least, they assessed the marketing campaign and the communication and presentation activities of the airports with regard to their business partners and the public. Prague Airport was successful in standing up to global competition for the first time ever nevertheless in the previous four years it had always managed to reach narrower nominations for regional prizes in Europe.

The World Routes Marketing Award has been awarded every year since 1997 exclusively by air company representatives and is divided into five categories – four categories reflect the size of the airport and the number of checked in passengers and a separate category for an award for the best destination marketing campaign.

The World Routes Development Forum, the biggest international air transport event was held this year for the twenty-first time, but for the first time on the African continent. This is a platform for all who decide about the development of aviation, i.e. air companies, airports, tourist organisations and so on. The development of services in the aviation sector and new air connections are planned as part of the forum. More at www.routesonline.com.
