KPMG Czech Republic: Health Care and Health Insurance Roundtable Meeting

On 23 June 2009, KPMG Czech Republic organised a Roundtable Meeting dedicated to health care and health insurance. Financing of health care sector in the Czech Republic, recent developments in public health insurance, and measures prepared as part of the originally planned health reforms and the “anti-crisis package” were among the key issues presented.

The following experienced professionals dealing with the topics in question both in the Czech Republic and abroad contributed to the success of the event with their lectures: MUDr. Pavel Hroboň, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic, Ing. Ladislav Friedrich, CSc., President of the Association of Companies Health Insurance Funds Czech Republic, PharmDr. Vladimír Finsterle, Executive Director of the Czech Forum for Modern Health Care, and RNDr. Ing. Jiří Němec, CSc., Adviser and former Director of the VZP health insurance company. The discussion was moderated by Ing. Miroslav Zámečník, Economic Adviser of the Czech National Economic Council (NERV).

Specialists from KPMG Netherlands spoke about their practical experience with recent changes following health care and health insurance reforms in the Netherlands. Attention was also paid to combined public and private health insurance as well as to market developments and mergers of health insurance companies. Major part of the seminar was devoted to a round-table discussion which gave its participants the opportunity to express their opinion and ask questions regarding the current situation in the Czech health care sector and its possible solutions.
