VoLTE-enabled devices now include iPhone handsets

26.10.2015
Company: T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s.

VoLTE is now supported by four iPhone models: 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus. The service can be easily turned on in a handset's menu and will be activated in 24 hours. Approximately 40,000 such devices are now in use in the T-Mobile network.

T-Mobile's Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology is now also supported by four iPhone models, namely the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, following an upgrade of iOS to version 9.1, which Apple released on 21 October 2015. This step was preceded by a demanding process of preparation which took several months.

The technology, which allows standard IP calls in the LTE network, is by default disabled in the menu of the models listed above. To use it, customers first need to enable it (a manual will be made available today on the website at www.t-mobile.cz/volte). The service will then be activated within 24 hours after being turned on in the menu.

Approximately 40,000 iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices are now in use in the T-Mobile network.

The operator's VoLTE technology is currently supported by eight types of handsets. In addition to the iPhone models mentioned above, VolTE-enabled devices include the Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 EDGE and Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE.

T-Mobile is the first (and so far only) operator in the Czech Republic and the fourth in Europe to have launched VoLTE. The main advantages of this technology include very short call-connection times, significantly improved quality of calls and lower power consumption for calls, which translates into longer battery life. Additionally, data connections are not restricted during calls, so customers can thus simultaneously use online navigation and make calls while driving.
