The working environment is fundamentally influenced by digital technologies. Cloud allows for unprecedented flexibility and mobility, instant messaging and enterprise social networks eliminate the corporate hierarchy and territorial barriers.
Successful companies are, and will remain those, which will evaluate their employees by results they achieve as opposed to monitoring presence at the workplace and hours spent at work. This is especially significant for the next generation of employees. More than half of millenials expect to be able to work form anywhere and they want to be managed by trust and measured by performance. This trend is radically changing the function of a workplace. The office of the future will primarily be a place for personal meetings, collaboration and for working on joint projects. It will enable people to work in different diverse teams and environments depending on the type of activity they want to do rather than being fixed to one desk. A great example of this is Microsoft’s new office, which will open in October 2015. The office is based on the concept of working from anywhere and it will allow the employees but also business partners and customers to experience this new style of work, which supports productivity, creativity and collaboration while also creating a place for better alignment of the personal and professional life.
Biljana Weber, GM of Microsoft CR, answers the question on why does Microsoft moves into the new premises:
„In today’s world, people can work from anywhere and the purpose of workspace has changed - it becomes a space to meet, exchange, collaborate, co-create. Delta concept enables us to create working environment that is fully in line with our vision of working from anywhere while supporting team spirit and innovative thinking. We believe that our example will inspire other companies to use modern technologies to increase innovation, creativity and flexibility at work.“
