2021 census – for citizens of the Czech Republic and foreign nationals

29.03.2021
Company: Deloitte

At midnight from 26 to 27 March 2021, a mandatory census will begin which is conducted once in ten years. The census is obligatory for all citizens of the Czech Republic and persons who have resided in the Czech Republic for more than 90 days. A failure to take part in this census may lead to sanctions of up to CZK 10,000. The census results will be published at the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022.

To whom does the census obligation apply?

The census is obligatory both for the citizens of the Czech Republic and foreigners who have been granted a permanent or temporary residence in the Czech Republic for more than 90 days as of the decisive moment (26 – 27 March 2021) or who have been granted asylum in the Czech Republic. The obligation does not apply to foreigners who stay in the Czech Republic for less than 90 days. The census also has to be carried out by statutory representatives on behalf of their children. It may also be carried out on behalf of other persons upon their consent or on behalf of persons who will not be able to fill in the census form by themselves.

How to get involved in the census?

From 27 March to 9 April, it will be possible to register for the census online via the web site www.scitani.cz or through the mobile application Sčítání2021. Apart from Czech, the form will also be available in seven languages including English, German or Russian. This option does not apply to foreigners who do not possess a physical residence permit or visa in the Czech Republic. Those who do not fill in the registration form online will have an obligation to complete a paper form between 17 April and 11 May 2021. This paper form will be delivered by an authorised member of the census committee on a date announced in advance or it will be available at contact points (e.g. selected branch offices of Česká pošta).

More information, frequent questions or instructions on how to complete the form are available on the website www.scitani.cz.
