New roaming data bundles for the EU to be even more favourable

27.04.2016
Company: T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s.

On 24 April, T-Mobile will expand its portfolio with new roaming data bundles intended for the EU zone, which includes the EU countries, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. As compared with the existing bundles, the new bundles will offer more data for more attractive prices. Within these bundles, the price of one MB of data is cheaper than within the regulated EU Roaming offer, which the operator will launch by the end of April. Thanks to the activation page in their handset’s browser or in the My T Mobile application, customers using the data bundles can keep tabs on their use of data while abroad.

The new offer consists of three roaming data bundles: Internet v zahraničí na den 40 MB (40 MB Internet Abroad for One Day) priced at CZK 49, Internet v zahraničí 200 MB (200 MB Internet Abroad) priced at CZK 199 and Internet v zahraničí 500 MB (500 MB Internet Abroad) priced at CZK 399.These bundles will replace the existing two variants of the Internet v zahraničí na den (Internet Abroad for One Day) bundle, which include either a 5 MB allowance priced at CZK 24 or a 5 MB-30 MB allowance priced at CZK 70, and the Internet v zahraničí 100 MB (100 MB Internet Abroad) available for CZK 185.

“The new bundles will offer more data for a lower price, even in comparison with EU Roaming, where one megabyte of data used costs CZK 1.65,” says Tomáš Ryšavý, Vice President Residential Segment Marketing at T-Mobile. According to him, the lowest bundle will also be more user-friendly, as there will only be one variant instead of the two existing data allowance-based variants, and a third bundle intended for more discerning users will be added. With this highest bundle, customers can save up to nearly 50% of costs as compared with the EU Roaming offer, as the bundle offering a 500 MB allowance costs CZK 399; however, with EU Roaming, customers will pay CZK 825 for the same amount of data.

Another benefit that the new roaming data offer for customers as compared with EU Roaming is full control over customers’ bills for data services. Thanks to the activation page in their handset’s browser, customers must confirm the purchase of each bundle. On this page or in the My T-Mobile application, customers can also check what portion of data they have already used and how much remains. On the other hand, users of EU Roaming can use their data allowance available with their respective plan anywhere in the EU, but they have to pay a CZK 1.65 surcharge for every MB consumed. With high data consumption, roaming data services can thus become rather pricey.

The number of data users and the volume of data used while roaming has been growing steadily. Last year saw an approximately 80% increase in the use of data while roaming as compared with 2014. The largest volume of data while roaming was used in Germany, Croatia and Slovakia. Thanks to the reduced prices, the operator expects that consumption figures will again increase not only for data services but also for calls and text messages.

T-Mobile published information about its EU Roaming offer at the beginning of March in a press release.
