Breaking point for solar speculators

14.04.2010
Company: Amcham

The speculators are forced by the new legislative situation to sell as quickly as possible and are starting to get very nervous. The risk that their projects will soon become non-salable has been increasing every day.

The current legislative situation and the threat of a dramatic decrease of energy redemption prices for projects connected after 31 December 2010 lead to the speculators’ frantic effort to sell those projects with the connection.

It applies that if the development of the power plant has not started by this July, there is very little chance of connecting the facility by the end of the year and thus having the current redemption prices guaranteed. Now, the prices have reached the maximum and will only continue decreasing. The same scenario occurred, for example, in Spain, and those who did not sell on time had in possession only a worthless unrealised project. “Their winning ticket in the solar lottery was not cashed in on time and expired,” says Michal Hrnčíř from Ambruz & Dark law firm.

Unfortunately, a great many gold-diggers, amateurs, and brokers are among the range of project owners. For investors, it is very difficult to find a real partner or owner of a quality project.

“In respect of the stop situation the investor himself has no chance to apply for the connection, he has to fight his way through the army of brokers and go through a number of imperfectly prepared projects,” explains Hrnčíř. This all obviously decreases the chance for realisation of the projects this year and under the existing favourable conditions.
