Deloitte to donate auction proceeds to support young artists

On Wednesday, Deloitte sold five paintings by young Czech and Slovak artists to private collectors at an auction at the Kings Court Hotel in Prague. The proceeds, a total of CZK 231,000, will be donated to support a special project for art students at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.
“The buyers not only helped support Deloitte’s thoughtful initiative but they were also able to take advantage of an excellent investment opportunity. Each painting will likely appreciate in value in the future”, said Mária Gálová of Dorotheum, who led the auction.
The auction was the culmination of the first part of Deloitte’s project entitled “Art of Success”, in which five artists created their own original expression of one of the values that are common for the worlds of art and business. These values include knowledge, vision, zeal, intuition and courage. The works, painted by Evžen Šimera, Jitka Mikulicová, Ladislava Gažiová, Miroslav Polách and Martin Gerboc, were first exhibited in October 2009 and were then on display at selected business events in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The auction was attended by major representatives from many Czech businesses. In addition to the art works, guests were also able to enjoy traditional French champagne from the House of Ruinart.
Deloitte’s project to support young artists is now in its second phase. This year, the firm will showcase photographs taken by students from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
