Language schools on the rise again

12.05.2011
Company: Amcham

The past years of economic recession have brought cuts in employee benefits and investments into language education, which was one of the top items on the cost-cutting measures list of HR departments. This fact has had negative impact particularly on language schools and other providers of language services and meant a drop by 25% in their turnover.

Consequently, many companies found themselves in the red figures, which brought a number of changes to the market. Some language schools closed down, while others, established players on the market, opted for mergers and acquisitions.

Channel Crossings, one of the largest language services providers in the Czech Republic, managed to overcome this difficult period without major problems also thanks to acquisition of Ulrych Language Studio in summer 2009. “Last year, we managed to stabilise our expanded portfolio and win new corporate clients, which enabled us to return to growth,” says Vítězslav Bican, CEO of Channel Crossings. “Growth in turnover in language courses exceeded 20% in 2010,” he adds.

The Channel Crossings group, which includes also translation and interpreting services and study abroad programmes, reached the turnover of CZK 58.1 million in 2010, a 12,9% growth in comparison with 2009. “I am glad that this result proved our strong position amongst the providers of complex language services,” says Vítězslav Bican.

Channel Crossings language agency was founded in 1993. Its mission is to provide a wide range of efficient language services that would meet the demands of local and foreign customers from private companies, state institutions as well as the general public. Channel Crossings has an integrated quality management system in compliance with the ISO 9001:2008 and ČSN EN 15038:2006 standards.
