CMS wins CEE and Hungary Law Firm of the Year awards

14.05.2012
Company: CMS

CMS Cameron McKenna LLP was named as 'Law Firm of the Year' for the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region and Hungary at the Chambers Europe Awards for Excellence on 10 May in Amsterdam. CMS also won a client service award in Portugal and short-listed as Law Firm of the Year for Czech Republic, Germany and Portugal.

The Chambers awards honour outstanding law firms and legal professionals around the world.

Andrew Kozlowski, International Managing Director for CEE comments: “We are delighted to have won Law Firm of the Year for CEE and Hungary. With the largest footprint in Europe we are pleased to be recognised as a stand out law firm in the region. We are committed to providing our clients with high quality local expertise and cross border collaboration.”

Gabriella Ormai, Office Managing Partner for CMS Budapest, continues: ”Winning the award in Hungary is particularly significant as it is the first year for the category at the awards. It is testament to our depth and longevity across Europe, as well as our lawyers and the relationships we have built with our clients over the years.”

To win the Hungary award at the first time of asking ahead of 4 competitors (White&Case, Baker & McKenzie, Oppenheim and Weil Gotshal) highlights the excellent partners, staff and client base that have been developed in the Budapest office of CMS.

Notes to editors:

Significant transactions that the firm has recently acted on include:

CEE

CMS is a leading European firm with particular strength in CEE where we have the most extensive network of offices. In January 2012, it was announced we have been ranked no 1 by Bloomberg and ‘Deal Watch’ (Emerging Markets Information Service) in terms of the number of M&A deals worked on in CEE. Winning the award was based on highlighting a broad range of deals and disputes in the key sectors in which we operate.

Hungary

CMS in Hungary advised on a large percentage of the top 10 M&A deals taking place on the Hungarian market in 2011 (according to DealWatch, E&Y M&A barometer and BBJ business magazine’s top deals) including Sun Capital - Pannunion acquisition, Advent International – Provimi Pet Food acquisition, RTL Group – acquisition of 7 broadcasting channels, ERSTE - acquisition of 50% stake in Magyar Factor and EETEK – E-Star acquisition. Metlife’s acquisitions of Aviva Hungary as well as the planned sale of subsidiaries in CEE of a multi-jurisdictional German bank are key and significant deals on the market.

Our experience though is not restricted just to deals. We also advise on the ongoing disputes surrounding the delays to the Budapest Metro Line 4 which represents possibly the largest current arbitration in the country. Our sector specific expertise is being recognised by our clients and has resulted in several new client wins over the past years especially from sector such as TMT, Lifesciences, Financial Institutions, Energy and Automotive.
