The Language Schools Market is Developing

Company: Amcham

Although in the past five years the language services market was facing a drop in demand, it currently seems that since the turn of the decade the situation has been changing. In 2011 the total volume of the language teaching market ranged between 1.7 and 1.9 million lessons provided by over 200 language schools and agencies. While the end of the past decade saw closures and mergers of a number of language schools, this area of business is, after all, doing better now.

(Prague, 17 May 2012) Although in the past five years the language services market was facing a drop in demand, it currently seems that since the turn of the decade the situation has been changing. In 2011 the total volume of the language teaching market ranged between 1.7 and 1.9 million lessons provided by over 200 language schools and agencies. While the end of the past decade saw closures and mergers of a number of language schools, this area of business is, after all, doing better now.

Language teaching is the most important area of the company’s activities, however, Channel Crossings also focuses on translations and interpreting and study abroad. In 2011 the company’s turnover increased by 13 % and amounted to CZK 61 million. „Most of all I appreciate the fact, that for the first time since 2007 we have achieved growth in all product areas,“ says Vítězslav Bican, the company’s executive director. „It is primarily the result of our efforts to provide comprehensive services to our customers and to address their specific needs,“ adds Bican.

The highest increase was recorded in the area of language studies abroad (the total of 37 percent). Turnover of this sector increased by 2.5 million, i.e. nearly by one third. Nevertheless it is not just the turnover that determines the company’s success. „Despite extensive investments we were luckily able to maintain a reasonable expense growth rate, and the operating profit has thus increased by 32 % to the level of CZK 3 million,“ says Lenka Doležalová Pavilková, owner of the company.

Channel Crossings language agency was founded in 1993. Its mission is to provide extensive range of effective language services in order to satisfy individual requirements of domestic and foreign customers from private companies, state organizations and the general public. Channel Crossings has introduced an integrated system of quality management according to the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 and EN 15038 standards.
