ModusLink supports Vranov Children’s Home

3.01.2013
Company: ModusLink Czech Republic s.r.o.

Christmas and New Year’s Eve is the time of year all children look forward to. They look forward, of course, to receive Christmas presents and to enjoy the festive Christmas holiday atmosphere. But it is as well a time when older children begin thinking about the coming year and about their own future. ModusLink and its employees wanted to support and delight the children from the Vranov Children’s Home during this year’s Christmas season by arranging a Christmas event on Dec 6th, 2012 at the Brno site.

“At the Christmas event we presented a check for 140,000 Czech Crowns (7,000 USD) in order to help build a new playground for the kids on the Children’s Home grounds. The largest part of the financial contribution is coming from the company, but what we value the most, is that 40,000 Czech Crowns (2,000 USD) was collected thanks to the generous personal contributions from our employees,“ said Victor van Kempen, Finance Director of ModusLink, Brno.

The Christmas event was also attended by a member of the Czech Senate and former professional cyclist Mr. Jozef Regec, who has long supported children's homes throughout the region. After the presentation of the donation, Mr. Regec shared his sporting experiences with children and employees, and he recounted how these same qualities that led him to success in sports, help him now with his current work in the Senate.

The nineteen children from Vranov Children’s home that attended the Christmas event also had the opportunity to visit the production facility of the company. The children appreciated the tour as an extraordinary and unique opportunity. During the tour, ModusLink production manager Pavel Čermák held a question and answer session, where the children could ask any questions that they may have had regarding the operation. For the children over 16 years of age, a summer program of hands-on work experience was also announced. “We think that it is important that the cooperation with Vranov Children’s Home works on a long-term basis, and that the children receive from us not only financial support, but as well an experience which they would benefit from when they need to live on their own in the future”, said Noemi Gill, Regional HR Manager of ModusLink, Brno.

The next occasion that the employees and children get together is planned for April 2013, when the construction of the playground should be completed, and the formal hand over to the children will take place.
