Deloitte Will Support the Jindřich Chalupecký Award for the Third Consecutive Year

27.03.2013
Company: Deloitte

This year, Deloitte will once again be partner to the Jindřich Chalupecký Award. For the third consecutive year, Deloitte will participate in activities focused on supporting young artists in the Czech Republic. Deloitte has been actively supporting art since 2009 when it launched its Art of Success project as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.

This year, for the twenty-fourth time in the history of the most prestigious Czech painting award, the jury met and announced the names of the finalists who will be under the close attention of the professional and general public until this autumn, when this year's laureate will be announced. Contrarily to previous years, the organisation team announced the award candidates at the end of last year, which is earlier than is traditional. The reason for this is to expand the activities of the Jindřich Chalupecký Society. The Society's aim is to raise awareness of the final nominees throughout the year. In addition, the year is marked by many changes, such as returning back to the premises at Veletržní palác which is the seat of the National Gallery's modern and contemporary art collection. Moreover, in this year's Jindřich Chalupecký Award competition, the total number of artists participating in the competition (79) is the greatest in the award's whole history.

"Speaking of the international jury's work, I can say that the decisions passed by it were made in an unpopulistic manner and that the jury awarded the truly exceptional artistic performance of authors who sometimes have a low chance of becoming publicly successful due to the degree of risk accompanying their projects," says Lenka Lindaurová, Curator and Chairwoman of the Jindřich Chalupecký Society.

The award's finalists, including authors of videos, installations, objects, performances and artistic books, were selected by a jury comprising seven members, chaired for the third time by Christian Rattemeyer, curator of MoMA New York, whose membership in the jury will be concluded this year. This year's finalists are: Daniela Baráčková, Aleš Čermák, Dominik Lang, Václav Magid and Richard Nikl. The award winner will be announced on 15 November at a festive ceremony that will be directed by David Jařab and will take place at the National Gallery.
