Superstar Jaromir Jagr, who recently joined the Boston Bruins, showed his support for the community in the wake of the Marathon bombings, by teaming up with AT&T to honor the city’s first responders. The future hockey Hall of Famer invited 20 children of Boston’s first responders to Sunday’s playoff game as a thank you for their parents’ dedication and service.
All of the kids who attended the game on Sunday are also members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB), where AT&T is making a $50,000 donation in honor of Jagr’s longstanding dedication to helping children achieve their full potential.
Among those in attendance at Sunday's game were Charlestown Boys and Girls Club members Nolan McLaughlin, Mike McLaughlin, Steven Fabiano and Jaime Poole.
“We are grateful for Jaromir's generosity and commitment to Boston. He truly is a legend both on the ice and off,” said Patricia Jacobs, president, AT&T New England. “We are proud to be teaming up with Jaromir, and know that this donation will make a huge difference in the lives of many kids across the city.”
The funding from AT&T will support BGCB’s “Life After the Club” program, which is aimed at helping its members between the ages of 15 and 18 set goals for their post-Club lives and develop plans for how to achieve them, and providing them with the skills and resources necessary for success.
“We are grateful to Jaromir Jagr and AT&T for the generous donation,” said Josh Kraft, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. “This is a tremendous example of how people in our community take care of one another. As a result of this gift our members will be even more prepared for the future.”
