Protecting customer data from government snooping

In response to recent news regarding the concerns about government surveillance of the Internet, Microsoft has announced an enhanced and detailed commitment to protect customer data.

Microsoft General Counsel Brad Smith has posted an Official Microsoft Blog that confimes our commitment to delivering the security, privacy and reliability to protect customers and details three important new steps the company is taking to protect customer data: expanding encryption across services; reinforcing the legal protections for customer data; and Enhancing the transparency of code, making it easier for governments to reassure themselves that products do not contain backdoors.
