Interview with Kamila Štěpánková, HR Director at Avast Software.
1/ Avast is bringing Silicon Valley into Prague, could you explain more about the concept ?
Silicon Valley is the greatest source of software innovation in the world today. So it is logical that we have looked to Silicon Valley companies for a source of inspiration in planning a physical environment that encourages innovation. What we found is that the technology leaders in the Valley made it a high priority to create a physical environment that maximizes communication between the employees (open plan, restaurant to meet and eat), while at the same time providing a fun environment (gym, play and relax areas, cinema). The physical environment feeds into the employee’s sense of well being, and provides the maximal opportunity for creative endeavor.
2/ Does Avast plan to use this opportunity to attract more IT/technology specialists in the future? If so, how many?
Absolutely. We want the buzz to get around so that we can hire the very best, not only in engineering but in all areas. We are always actively looking for more personnel to join us.
3/ What is you idea, how the IT specialist of 2025 should look like and need to know?
The pace of change continues to increase. The technology worker of 2025 will be able to embrace that change. He will be able to master the low-level workings of various systems, but at the same time, be much more apt in social engineering skills. We will see many more IT experts whose expertise will in fact be cross-functional. Cognitive sciences will become of much more importance than today. Bio- and IT- sciences will continue to converge.
