Exclusive interview with Executive Director of The Lobkowicz Palace, Dr. Ulrike Döcker
Tell us about your professional background.
I was born in Austria, and have been working primarily in Europe but also abroad. I have an academic background, having lectured at the University of Vienna teaching primarily Sociology and History. After my academic years I moved into publishing and later the PR and Communications industry.
Of all of the thousands of objects in the Collections, do you have a favorite? That’s a difficult question! Besides our masterpieces by Brueghel, Velázquez and Canaletto, the portraits in the Princess Ernestine room are definitely some of my favorites. Those women resonate such beauty and are so elegantly dressed. I found it even more interesting that Princess Ernestine had painted all these stunning portraits herself. I have been able to find a lot of women within the Lobkowicz family that have been able to inspire me.
What are some of the things you hope to achieve during your time at the Lobkowicz Palace?
We’d like to continue providing our visitors with unforgettable experiences and enhance them even more with a modern 21st century approach. We have recently researched the latest trends in museums internationally and hope to become one of the greatest pioneers in Central Europe’s museum world. We want to make sure that our visitors fully take in the majesty of these collections and hear the fascinating stories behind them.
What is your most important goal that you hope to achieve this coming year? My goal is to make sure that the The Lobkowicz Palace is a place where history and nobility come to life – a place visitors love to go to.
