Medtronic’s Bakken Invitation celebrates and connects people, who with the help of medical technology, are contributing in communities all around the world through charitable service and volunteerism. It embraces the legacy of Medtronic co-founder and humanitarian Earl Bakken. It culminates in the celebration of 10 Bakken Invitation Honorees, who are recognized for outstanding contributions.
Each year, 10 people will be selected from the Bakken Invitation Community for the Bakken Invitation Award, recognizing their extraordinary accomplishments. Each of these 10 Bakken Honorees will earn a $20,000 grant from Medtronic Philanthropy to be given to their designated charity, and a trip to Hawaii to meet Medtronic co-founder Earl Bakken.
Bakken Award Applicant Criteria
- Be individuals who, with the help of medical technology, are giving their time and talent to improve the quality of life for others.
- Be 14 years or older.
- Currently use an approved medical device therapy to treat heart disease, diabetes, spinal disorders, chronic pain, or neurological, gastroenterological and urological disorders. There is no restriction on device manufacturer.
- Have an established relationship of involvement with a legal nonprofit organization for six months or more.
2014 PROGRAM TIMING
- Applications will be accepted from June 2 to July 18 for consideration in the 2014 Award. Applications received after July 18 will be considered for the 2015 Award.
- All applicants will be notified by September 1.
- A public announcement of the honorees will occur in late fall.
- Award celebration will take place in January 2015 in Hawaii.
