Dentons supports Czech marriage equality campaign

Dentons’ Prague office has formally pledged its support for the Czech marriage equality campaign. The campaign, "We Are Fair" (Jsme fér), aims to secure the right for gays and lesbians in the Czech Republic to get married.

Dentons has a solid track record of supporting marriage equality, having publicly pledged its support for similar campaigns in the US (see here) and Australia (see here).

The Czech campaign was launched in April 2017 by five non-profit organizations including Amnesty International, Mezipatra queer film festival, LOGOS (LGBTQ+ believers), Prague Pride and PROUD. It has secured over 70 000 signatures for a petition requesting marriage equality which has been submitted to the Czech Parliament. A bill introducing marriage equality was filed in the Czech Parliament in June this year and has been approved by the government. The bill is now awaiting its first reading, which may occur as early as September this year. If passed, the Czech Republic would be the first country in the CEE region to introduce equal marriage.

In July 2018, Dentons was named one of Stonewall's Top Global Employers 2018, in recognition of its strong culture of inclusion for members of the LGBT community. The firm is one of just 13 organizations around the globe to feature on this year's list.
