Explore Dresden

30.01.2017
Company: Amcham

Frauenkirche, Semperoper, Zwinger. Think of Dresden, and these sights are probably the first to come to mind. The picturesque baroque city near the Czech border boasts a wealth of architectural gems and a broad range of cultural offerings. But Dresden also has plenty to offer off the beaten tourist paths.

Dresden is a great city with lots of variety. With countless galleries and boutiques to browse through before enjoying a relaxing stop in a cosy café. Both the modern new town as well as the historic old town have plenty of special places to discover that you won’t necessarily find in the guidebooks. Here are our best tips for you:

Cultural diversity

Kunsthofpassage

Every city has its darker corners. In Dresden, new life was breathed into forgotten alleys to create places like the Kunsthofpassage (Art Courtyard Passage). A group of artists brought old, dark courtyards to life with mosaics, colourful statues and artistically styled rainwater pipes on the walls of the buildings. An especially good way to enjoy your time here is at one of the little cafés and restaurants.

Villa Marie

This Tuscan villa is located at one end of “Blaues Wunder” (“Blue Wonder”), Dresden’s most famous bridge, just a few feet away from the pier of the White Fleet. The house, which was probably built around 1860, is a historic monument whose half-timbered attic and cute wooden towers give it a special, radiant charm. Don’t miss the view of the riverbank from here! A visit is definitely worth it.
