Political Digest - Election Issue

10.10.2016
Company: Grayling Czech Republic, s.r.o.

This Autumn, Grayling will be tracking the Regional and Senate Elections, so you don't have to. We are preparing a report for our clients and stakeholders, which will look at the outcomes from a different angle.

The general feeling sometimes is that these so-called secondary elections do not play major role in national politics. We beg to differ. Although this time the current coalition is pretty much safe, both in terms of maintaining majority in the Senate and top positions in all major regions, there are still interesting points to focus on.

We have already shared our first insight with you about the astonishing number of MPs and Senators who participate in the current elections as candidates. During and after the election weekend, we will focus on other interesting questions.
Jan Mládek, the Minister of Industry and Trade is running for Senate in Tábor; if not successful, he might end up losing his current job as well.
Two major inner-party competitors of the Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka are defending their regional positions. Jiří Zimola in South Bohemia and Michal Hašek in South Moravia.
Will the Ústí region remain the only one under a Communist leadership?
Social Democrats declared intention to win in 12 regions, ANO Movement to win in 5. That is 17 and we have only 13 regions - someone will be dissappointed.
Regional elections do not tend to gain much attention, yet they certainly have implications for politics on the national level. More so that they are held only exactly one year ahead of the general election.

We will be tweeting live, using #volby2016 on @PragueLobby and there will be a comprehensive report right after the elections.
