Prague’s most modern multisport arena to be renamed UNYP Arena!

The University of New York in Prague has a long history of supporting the healthy and active lifestyles of its students. The university is now pleased to announce that it will take its partnership with AC Sparta Praha to the next level by applying the UNYP name and brand to one of Prague’s largest and most modern multisport facilities. At the start of September, the multisport facility in Prague 9, Podvinny Mlyn (currently known as Arena Sparta) started a rebranding project which will see the main hall and all connected fields renamed UNYP Arena.  The rebranded UNYP Arena will also become the official home of the UNYP Blazers floorball, football and basketball teams. All changes should be complete before the end of the year.  

UNYP Arena is currently home to more than six Sparta clubs, covering sports from floorball and futsal to rugby and athletics. Adding the Sparta teams to the other clubs, schools and teams that use the facilities for training and practice, UNYP Arena provides sporting facilities to over 2,000 young people in Prague.  UNYP Arena provides opportunities for young people to occupy their free time in a constructive manner, giving them a positive outlet to learn, grow and develop their bodies and minds through sports and physical activities.  In addition to sports, UNYP Arena is well-known as a venue for events such as Heroes Gate, dance competitions and RC car racing.  UNYP Arena hosted the Floorball World Championships in 2018 and the Futsal World Championships in 2019. 

“The University of New York in Prague has always believed that a healthy mind and a heathy body produce the best students and future alumni.  With that in mind, we were very excited to work with the Sparta Association to name the Prague 9 Arena, which is home to many of their teams. We hope to use this opportunity to give our students more sports and physical fitness opportunities as well as support the community and the youth that practice here,” says UNYP General Manager Sotiris Foutsis. “As a long-term partner of the Sparta Floorball team, having our name on their home arena is a great continuation of our partnership. We are proud of the great reputation, attitude and portsmanship qualities that they have demonstrated throughout.” 

“This arena is associated with some of the best Czech sports teams, so it made sense to rename it after the leading English-language higher education institution in the Czech Republic. UNYP has an excellent reputation, and we are excited to see this successful relationship growing and creating great sporting communities,” adds Václav Culka, Chairman of the Board, Association Club Sparta Praha.  

The University of New York in Prague’s commitment to and links with the sports community are set to become more important than ever with the addition of a new concentration to the UNYP business program. UNYP is excited to announce that from September 2020, it will be offering a unique bachelors in Business Administration with concentration in Sports Management.
