Scandal 2021 – a virtual island experience

16.07.2021
Company: Y SOFT Corporation, a.s.

Our annual offsite goes virtual – raising money for Doctors Without Borders

Long time blog readers know that every year, YSofters gather for a couple of days of fun, relaxation and games. Known as Scandal, the annual event is usually split into three regions: EMEA, North and South America and APAC. This year everyone came together on June 17 for a combined event held throughout the day.

With COVID still restricting our travel, we visited a virtual world – where we sailed the high seas to an island filled with games, a main stage for strategic presentation and guest speakers, places to have an online chat, and what Czech activity is complete with a bar? We all were kitted up with sailing shirts, parrots, sailor tattoos and the means to make island cocktails.

Seriously though, Scandal is meant to get together as a company, chat with colleagues face to face and recharge for the fiscal year ahead. Even though we still had to meet through our webcams, we had hours to chat, listen to great music – thanks to team Netherlands, and play the games. Many teams gathered either in the office or in outdoor spaces, if it was possible, to experience the island together while others joined from home.

It is a Y Soft tradition that points earned from the games turn into money for charity; over $4600 was donated to Doctor’s Without Borders. A representative of that organization was on the island with us (calling in directly from her mission in Yemen) and shared how the monetary contribution will be used to vaccinate people in countries that cannot afford to purchase vaccines on their own. We feel especially proud to help out.

A special thank you to the virtual island crew and YSofter support staff who managed a schedule to answer support questions from customers and partners.

So what did our virtual island look like? What were the games about? The pictures below offer a little glimpse of what it was like. Solving the first puzzle gave YSofters the ability to fly – at the end, everyone could fly, enjoy the fireworks and hang out as long as they wanted.
