25.10.2017
Company: Steelcase Czech Republic s.r.o

Steelcase wins the German Design Award 2018. The renowned price goes to Gesture with headrest, which already received multiple awards for its design and functionality. “Making technology usability friendly for users is a focus topic in today’s design”, says member of the jury Dina Gallo. Gesture with headrest responds to this trend. It is a chair created for the ways people work today, meeting highest ergonomic standards.

“We’re very proud receiving this award”, says James Ludwig, who is leading the global design team at Steelcase. Gesture is the first chair designed to support the body when interacting with modern technology.”

INNOVATIVE DESIGN BASED ON INTENSIVE RESEARCH

Steelcase researchers studied how the physiology of work has changed, how the human body interacts with new technologies and how it transitions as people shift from one device to another. Gesture’s design was inspired by studying the movement of the human body and created for the ways people work today.

Based on intensive design studies and research Steelcase optimised the chair with its integrated headrest which provides comfort and support as well as an unprecedented range of motion at the workplace.

The German Design Award is the top international prize of the German Design Council. Its goal: to discover, present and honour unique design trends. Therefore, every year, top-quality entries from product and communication design are rewarded, all of which are in their own way ground-breaking in the international design landscape. Launched in 2012, the German Design Award is one of the most well-respected design competitions in the world and is held in high regard well beyond professional circles.
