T-Mobile in 2019: Data revolution. Fibre. Best network

25.02.2020
Company: T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s.

  • Strong focus on mobile data, GB price declined in average by 50% y/y
  • Highest network quality confirmed for the 3rd time by umlaut (former P3) test Best-In-Test Award
  • Total revenues reached CZK 28.3 billion

The year 2019 could be perceived as the year of mobile data – TMCZ improved its offer in the area several times (e.g. sharing of data allowance in M1prepaid SIM for occasional users), but the real revolution came with the Unlimited summer campaign, followed by introduction of the new tariff generation offering flexibility in combining voice and data components. The customers can also opt for unlimited data tariff plans. As the result, the average mobile GB price for TMCZ customers decreased year on year by nearly 50% from CZK 312 to CZK 157 in December 2019. Users of Magenta 1 pay in average even less: CZK 95/GB.

Moreover, the Operator continued in deployment of the nation-wide fiber network, further developed the family offers presented by Magenta 1 program and in December, announced its plans in building the first 5G campus in CZ. At the end of the year, the independent umlaut network testing proved TMCZ offers the best network in CZ.

The focus on the best customers´ experience resulted in promising financial and operating figures, proving TMCZ has become the preferred provider of convergent services. Number of mobile customers reached nearly 6.3 million, fix broadband 320,000, TV 149,000. Total revenues reached CZK 28.3 billion.

“We can be proud of the last year´s results: not only we managed to change Czech mobile data market, but we also strengthened our position in B2B and fix markets,“ says Jose Perdomo Lorenzo, CEO T-Mobile CZ and Slovak Telekom, adding: “In 2020, we want to further support digitalization of Czechia, especially by further investments in the national roll-out of fiber network and by the activities in 5G area.“

Data, data, data

The number of minutes called and text messages sent in the T-Mobile network remains last couple of years on the same level; on the other hand, data consumption has been growing significantly. The overall volume of data transmitted by means of converged services (mobile data, Internet bez drátu, Pevný internet vzduchem and Pevný internet do zásuvky) has grown by nearly 82% year-on-year to more than 314 thousand TB. The data transmitted in mobile network (mobile data and Internet bez drátu) reached nearly 100 thousand TB.

Juraj Bóna, Chief Commercial Officer Czech Republic, comments the results: “The Unlimited summer offered the customers possibility to surf without fear, brought us interesting data on their behavior and helped us to create brand a new tariff generation including flat data packages. The customers’ enthusiastic respond proved our strategy is not only bold, but also the right one.“
