Aerospace Embedded SW Specialist Engineer - guru

Aerospacel, engineering, RTCA/DO-178/DO-254 Our client’s European Innovation Center has an opening for a Specialist Engineer. Besides the Controls group at the European Innovation Center, Prague, CZ, the individual will be also a team member of the Aerospace Embedded Systems Center of Excellence (ESCOE), Fort Worth, TX. The Aerospace ESCOE supports all software, firmware, and controls activities across all of Aerospace’s divisions representing a diverse set of avionics products.

The Specialist Engineer creates their own strategy, direction, priorities and develops constructive solutions aligning to business needs. Coordinates multi-disciplined engineering projects from design to implementation and serves as an expert resource for other engineers. Reviews project deliverables to ensure its accuracy and co-ordinate with engineering teams. Has in depth knowledge of Division goals and strategies and drives business objectives / improvements impacting division-wide measures. Identifies opportunities or connections that enhance business performance.

This position involves leading small software development team (4-10 members) responsible for legacy and new product software/firmware development to RTCA/DO-178/DO-254 standards. This position requires knowledge and experience of embedded systems engineering including design and integration of complex systems for aircraft applications. Skills involve recognizing customer performance needs along with meeting certification requirements for various global commercial and military aerospace applications. This position will perform conceptual design, architecture, and development of embedded software, firmware & controls and its integration for various commercial and military applications. Successful candidates will be able to independently lead an engineering team for a major project from initial conception through each of the design and development phases, up to and including aircraft flight certification.

Create plans and documentation in compliance with customer specifications and industry regulations (DO178/DO254, etc.)
Lead software/firmware & controls development, design and implementation efforts as per plan. Manage documentation of all activities. Interface with internal and external resources as appropriate.
Lead software/firmware integration and verification efforts as per plan. Interface with production test to ensure delivered products are testable during production.
Deploy processes, to satisfy industry standards for software design and implementation (CMM, CMMI, AS9100C, etc.).
Participate in the selection and deployment of the engineering tools and processes. Manages complex projects involving multiple components or systems for completeness and compatibility with organizational objectives and standards.
Ability to influence and drive people / activities on complex technical issues.
Define and deploy standard work processes. Lead and participate in COE wide continuous improvement initiatives. Coach and mentor junior engineers

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited university. M.S. & Controls Specialization Preferred.
Demonstrated 10+ year of experience in embedded full life cycle software design/ verification & certification activities in a process rigorous company

Technical Expertise in:

Embedded control software/firmware design/verification/certification
Developing software/firmware per an engineering development process for RTCA/DO-178/DO-254, or Software Engineering Institute CMMI level 3, or equivalent
Creating, planning, design, verification and analysis documentation per engineering process requirements, DO-178/DO-254 experience preferred.
Planning, estimating, and tracking software project development phases
Hardware In the Loop, Model In the Loop, and/or Software In the Loop
Knowledge of Configuration Management processes and tools
Demonstrated experience in full life-cycle of software development, verification and certification preferably in aerospace, vehicle, or medical device or similar domain.
Can assess trade-offs between business needs, technology requirements, and cost.
Drives skill development and routinely mentor others in technical specialty.
Developing University Relations for the location. Lead CoP / CoI forums
